Representing Thailand, “The Iron Man” Rodtang Jitmuangnon, 31, was one of the winners at “ONE: Warriors of Light.” It was his fourth victory in ONE Championship’s striking-only league ONE Super Series.
Featuring three kickboxing contests, four Muay Thai matches and five mixed martial arts bouts, “ONE: Warriors of Light” took place at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand on May 10, 2019. In the ninth bout of the evening, Rodtang fought Sok Thy, 21, of Cambodia in an Muay Thai match in the flyweight division with Atsushi Onari as the referee.
Delivering a riveting knockout finish of Sok, Rodtang sent his hometown crowd of Bangkok into a frenzy. The hometown hero came out of the gates blazing, firing a myriad of blistering strikes at his Cambodian opponent, who offered very little defense.
It was Rodtang’s thudding leg kicks that did the most damage as he endlessly battered Thy’s lower body into submission. Although the Cambodian contender survived the first round, the Thai fighter put on the finishing touches with another ferocious combination forcing Onari to put a stop to the flyweight contest after 1 minute and 36 seconds in the second round.
Winning at “ONE: Warriors of Light” improved the professional Muay Thai record of Rodtang to 256 wins, 41 losses and 10 draws.
The audience learned what is next for Rodtang during his post-fight interview inside the cage with Mitch Chilson. The Jitmuangnon Gym athlete will challenge newly crowned ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Jonathan “The General” Haggerty, 21, of Walworth, London, United Kingdom.
While Rodtang was one of the six hometown fighters at “ONE: Warriors of Light,” Sok solely represented Cambodia. Algeria, Australia, China, Chinese Taipei, Cyprus, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Portugal and the United States were also represented.
Rodtang is undefeated in ONE Super Series. In his league debut at “ONE: Conquest of Heroes” at the Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Indonesia on September 22, 2018, he defeated Sergio “Little One” Wielzen, 31, of Suriname and the Netherlands.
On January 25, 2019, Rodtang defeated Fahdi “The Gladiator” Khaled, 23, of Tunisia “ONE: Hero’s Ascent” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. On March 31, 2019, the Jitmuangnon Gym athlete defeated Hakim Hamech, 26, of France at “ONE: A New Era” at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan.
