Fighting out of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Luana “Dread” Carolina, 32, was one of the winners at “UFC 237.” It was her first victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Featuring 12 mixed martial arts matches, “UFC 237” took place at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on May 11, 2019. In the third bout of the evening, Carolina fought Priscila “Pedrita” Cachoeira, 30, of Rio de Janeiro in the women’s flyweight division with Fernardo Portella as the referee.
After three five-minute rounds, the flyweight bout was left in the hands of the judges namely Fabio Alves, Dave Tirelli and Hallison Pontes. In the end, Portella raised the hand of Carolina, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
Both Alves and Tirelli scored the bout 30-26 while Pontes scored it 29-28 all in favor of Carolina. Winning at “UFC 237″improved Carolina’s professional MMA record to 6 wins and 1 loss while Cachoeira now has 8 wins and 3 losses.
Cachoeira and Carolina were two of the 14 fighters who represented Brazil at “UFC 237.” The other countries were Argentina, Australia, Mexico, Peru and the United States.
Born on June 11, 1993 in Brazil, Carolina has been competing professionally since 2015. When she made her professional MMA debut on January 24, 2015 at “Arena Combat Fight Night” at the Juquehy Municipal Square in Sao Sebastiao in Sao Paulo, Brazil, she lost via split decision to Daiane “Dai Fox” Firmino, 29, of Maua, Sao Paulo.
Since losing to Firmino, Carolina redeemed herself by winning all her next bouts. Before joining the UFC, Carolina won five bouts consecutively.
In 2015, Carolina defeated Isabella “Belinha” de Padua, 27, of Mogi-Guacu, Sao Paulo at “Casa Branca MMA” and Ana Merlin of Brazil at “Thunder Fight 5.” Carolina defeated Jessica “Jeeh” Negrão, 27, of Guarulhos, Sao Paulo at “Batalha MMA 3” in 2016 and Mary Ellen Sato, 31, of Guaruja, Sao Paulo at “Thunder Fight 12” in 2017.
On August 11, 2018, Carolina joined Dana White’s Contender Series. She won via unanimous decision against Mabelly Lima, 25, of Limoeiro do Norte, Ceara, Brazil.
