Viviane Araujo earns 1st UFC win at ‘UFC 237’ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Fighting out of Brasilia, Federal District, Brazil, Viviane “Vivi” Araujo, 32, was one of the winners at “UFC 237.” It was her first victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Featuring 12 mixed martial arts matches, “UFC 237” took place at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on May 11, 2019. In the first bout of the evening, Araujo fought Talita Bernardo, 32, of Macae, Rio de Janeiro in the women’s bantamweight division with Fernardo Portella as the referee.

Portella put a stop to the bantamweight contest after 48 seconds in the third round. Bernardo knocked out Araujo via punch.

Winning at “UFC 237″improved Araujo’s professional MMA record to 7 wins and 1 loss. On the other hand, Bernardo now has 6 wins and 4 losses.

Araujo accepted the challenge to fight Bernardo at “UFC 237” on four days’ notice. The Brasilia native normally fights at strawweight but managed to defeat her opponent at bantamweight.

After winning at “UFC 237,” Araujo plans to return to the strawweight division.  She is now riding a four-bout winning streak.

“UFC 237” marked Araujo’s UFC debut. She previously competed in Fight K, Federal Gladiators Combat, Iron Fight Combat, Jungle Fight, NP Fight and Pancrase.

On the other hand, “UFC 237” marked Bernardo’s fourth UFC outing. She now has 1 win and 3 losses in the promotion.

Originally, Bernardo was set to face Melissa Gatto at “UFC 237.” The latter was deemed unfit to fight because of an infection so she was replaced by Araujo.

Bernardo and Araujo were two of the 14 fighters who represented Brazil at “UFC 237.” The other countries were Argentina, Australia, Mexico, Peru and the United States.

Born in Brazil on November 21, 1986, Araujo has been competing professionally since 2015. She is training out of Cerrado MMA in Brasilia.
