Fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Warlley Alves, 28, was one of the winners at “UFC 237.” It was his seventh victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Featuring 12 mixed martial arts matches, “UFC 237” took place at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro on May 11, 2019. In the fifth bout of the evening, Alves fought Sergio “The Panther” Moraes, 36, of Sao Paulo, Brazil in the welterweight division with Osiris Maia as the referee.
Maia put a stop to the welterweight contest after 4 minutes and 13 seconds in the third round. Alves knocked out Moraes via uppercut.
Winning at “UFC 237″improved Alves’s professional MMA record to 13 wins and 3 losses. On the other hand, Moraes now has 14 wins, 5 losses and 1 draw.
It was a redemptive win for Alves. He was coming out of a technical knockout loss to James Krause, 32, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, USA at “UFC Fight Night 135” on August 25, 2018 at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska, USA.
“UFC 237” marked Alves’s 10th UFC outing. The opponents defeated in the promotion before Moraes were Marcio “Lyoto” Alexandre Jr., 30, of Florianopolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil, Alan “Brahma” Jouban, 37, of Hollywood, California, USA, Nordine Taleb, 37, of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Colby “Chaos” Covington, 31, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA, Salim “Grizzly” Touahri, 29, of Kraków, Poland and Sultan Aliev, 34, of Derbent, Russia.
Moraes and Alves were two of the 14 fighters who represented the Brazil at “UFC 237.” The other countries were Argentina, Australia, Mexico, Peru and the United States.
Alves is training out of XGym in Rio de Janeiro. He was born in Governador Valadares, Minas Gerais, Brazil on January 4, 1991.
In 2014, Alves participated in “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 3.” He defeated his three opponents in the MMA exhibition series namely Wendell “The Machine” Oliveira, 35, of Rio de Janeiro, Ismael “Marmota” de Jesus, 39, of Goiania, Goias, Brazil and Wagner “Wagnão” Silva, 32, of Vicosa, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
The XGym athlete has been competing professionally since 2011 and joined the UFC in 2014. Before joining the promotion, he competed in Jungle Fight.
