Camiguin is one of the five provinces of the Northern Mindanao region of the Philippines. The others are Bukidnon, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental and Lanao del Norte.

On June 22, 1957, Camiguin became part of Misamis Oriental. On June 18, 1966, the former became an independent province.

Jurdin Jesus “JJ” Modina Romualdo served as the congressman of Camiguin from June 30, 1998 to June 30, 2007 and the governor of the province from June 30, 2007 to June 30, 2016. He was born in Manila, Metro Manila, Philippines.

On July 26, 2018, Romualdo turned 58. On June 30, 2019, he will assume office again as the governor of Camiguin.

On May 13, 2019, voters in Camiguin elected their new congressman, governor, vice governor and board members as part of the 2019 Philippine national general election. Here are the official results from the Commission on Election (COMELEC):

Camiguin has five municipalities namely Catarman, Guinsiliban, Mahinog, Mambajao and Sagay. Collectively, these municipalities have 58 barangays, 15 of which are in Mambajao.

Every third week of October, Camiguin celebrates the Lanzones Festival. The capital of the province is Mambajao, which is home to Camiguin Polytechnic State College and the Camiguin Sports Complex.

Marydale “Maymay” Entrata was born in Camiguin and raised in Cagayan de Oro, one of the two independent cities in the Northern Mindanao region. She won the reality television competition show “Pinoy Big Brother: Lucky 7”, which aired on ABS-CBN from July 11, 2016 to March 5, 2017.
