Alaminos and Los Baños are among the 24 municipalities of Laguna. The University of the Philippines has a campus in the latter.

Born in Alaminos, Ariella “Ara” Hernandez Arida earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry in the Los Baños campus of the University of the Philippines. She was unplaced when she represented Alaminos at Miss Philippine Earth 2012 and competed against 46 other candidates at Miss Philippines Earth 2012 at the Center Stage of the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines.

On April 14, 2013, Arida represented Alaminos at Binibining Pilipinas 2013 and competed against 49 other candidates at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila. She ranked first and was crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2013.
