Leyte is one of the six provinces in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines. The others are Biliran, Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Samar and Southern Leyte.

Ormoc and Tacloban are geographically located in Leyte but both cities are independent from the province. Tacloban serves as the capital of the province.

Baybay is the only component city of Leyte. The province has 40 municipalities namely Abuyog, Alangalang, Albuera, Babatngon, Barugo, Bato, Burauen, Calubian, Capoocan, Carigara, Dagami, Dulag, Hilongos, Hindang, Inopacan, Isabel, Jaro, Javier, Julita, Kananga, La Paz, Leyt,e MacArthur, Mahaplag, Matag-ob, Matalom, Mayorga, Merida, Palo, Palompon, Pastrana ,San Isidro, San Miguel, Santa Fe, Tabango, Tabontabon, Tanauan, Tolosa, Tunga and Villaba.
