Muntinlupa, Metro Manila became the 65th city in the Philippines on March 1, 1995. The city is home to the New Bilibid Prison, the national insular penitentiary of the country.

On September 16, 2018, Mary Justine Teng represented Muntinlupa at Mutya ng Pilipinas 2018 and competed against 49 other candidates at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila. She ranked sixth and was named the first runner-up.

On October 7, 2018, Erica Larkins represented Muntinlupa at Miss World Philippines 2018 and competed against 39 other candidates at the same venue. She was unplaced.
