Surigao del Norte is one of the five provinces of the Caraga Administrative Region of the Philippines. The others are Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, the Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Sur.

Surigao City is the capital of Surigao del Norte and the only component city of the province. The province has 20 municipalities namely Alegria, Bacuag, Burgos, Claver, Dapa, Del Carmen, General Luna, Gigaquit, Mainit, Malimono, Pilar, Placer, San Benito, San Francisco, San Isidro, Santa Monica, Sison, Socorro, Tagana-an and Tubod.

On May 19, 2013, Joanne Jane Janson represented Surigao del Norte at Miss Philippines Earth 2013 and competed against 46 other candidates at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She was unplaced.

On August 16, 2014, Hyra Desiree Betito represented Surigao del Norte at Miss Grand Philippines 2014 and competed against 16 other candidates at the GT-Toyota Asian Cultural Center in Quezon City, Metro Manila. She finished in the Top 10.
