The Ultimate Fighting Championship will hold “UFC 242” on September 7, 2019 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The main event is a UFC Lightweight Championship title unification bout between current champion Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov, 30, of Makhachkala, Dagestan, Russia and interim champion Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier, 30, of Coconut Creek, Florida, United States.
Nurmagomedov has been reigning as the UFC Lightweight Champion since April 7, 2018. He successfully defended his belt from former champion Conor “The Notorious” McGregor, 30, of Dublin, Ireland on October 6, 2018.
On April 13, 2019, Poirier became the interim UFC Lightweight Champion. He earned the title by defeating reigning UFC Featherweight Champion Max “Blessed” Holloway, 27, of Waianae, Hawaii, USA.
The victory over Holloway improved the professional mixed martial arts record of Poirier to 25 wins, 4 losses and 1 No Contest. The latter is now riding a four-bout winning streak.
On the other hand, Nurmagomedov is one of the undefeated fighters in the UFC roster. He currently has 27 wins and 0 loss.
Born in Sildi, Tsumadinsky District, Dagestan on September 20, 1988, Nurmagomedov is of Avar descent. He joined the UFC in 2012 and became the first Russian and the first Sunni Muslim to win a title in the promotion.
