Hailing from Lahti, Finland, Aleksi “The Giant” Toivonen, 27, will make his ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Masters of Destiny” on July 12, 2019 at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He will face Akihiro “Superjap” Fujisawa, 39, of Tokyo, Japan in an MMA match in the flyweight division.
Toivonen is an assistant instructor at Evolve MMA in Singapore, where he teaches MMA. A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt, he has competed in more than 150 BJJ matches and earned the IBJJF No-Gi European Championship three times and the Finland National Amateur MMA Championship twice.
Born in Finland on October 20, 1991, Toivonen has been competing professionally as an MMA fighter since 2015. He was undefeated from 2015 to early 2018.
Before joining ONE Championship, Toivonen competed in Fight Night Finland and CAGE MMA Finland. In his most recent bout, which was at “Cage 44” on September 8, 2018, he had his first loss in the hands of Aren Akopyan, 25, of Moscow, Russia.
Currently, Toivonen holds a professional MMA record of 6 wins, 1 loss, 0 draw and 1 No Contest. On the other hand, Fujisawa has 5 wins and 1 loss.
Born in Okutama-machi Nishitama-gun, Tokyo on October 21, 1979, Fujisawa has been competing professionally since 2017. He was undefeated from 2017 to 2018.
Fujisawa is a ONE Warrior Series alum. On April 12, 2019, he had his first loss in the hands of Ramon “The Bicolano” Gonzales, 31, of the Philippines.
“ONE: Masters of Destiny” marks Fujisawa’s fourth ONE Championship bout. He defeated his first two opponents in the promotion namely Kaji “Alpha” Ebin, 27, and Rockie Bactol, 19, who are both from the Philippines.
