Reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee, 22, of Singapore will fight grappling superstar Michelle Nicolini, 37, of Brazil at “ONE: Masters of Destiny” on July 12, 2019 at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. They will compete in a mixed martial arts match in the women’s strawweight division.
“ONE: Masters of Destiny” marks the second time Lee is competing at strawweight. The first time was when she failed to dethrone reigning ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan, 31, of China at “ONE: A New Era” on March 31, 2019.
“ONE: A New Era” marked Lee’s first loss as a professional MMA fighter. It downgraded her record to 9 wins and 1 loss.
Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on July 8, 1996, Lee made her professional MMA debut in 2015. Since then, she has taken the world by storm, racking up an impressive succession of remarkable victories on her way to capturing the inaugural atomweight title.
After losing to Xiong, Lee starts her journey anew. Training out of Evolve MMA in Singapore and United MMA in Hawaii, United States, the reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion will have to get past Nicolini in order to move towards her goal.
Born in Itú, São Paulo, Brazil on January 5, 1982, Nicolini began her martial arts journey by training in Capoeira when she was 14. At age 17, she began training in the grappling arts, not long after winning a series of accolades in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a black belt, including eight IBJJF World Titles, an ADCC no-gi grappling title, double gold at the BJJ European championships and three Pan-American championships.
Training out of Vila Da Luta in São Paulo, Brazil, Nicolini is an eight-time BJJ World Champion, one of the most decorated champions in the sport of BJJ and is one of the few women admitted into the IBJJF Hall of Fame. As an MMA fighter, she has been competing professionally since 2011.
Currently, Nicolini holds a professional MMA record of 5 wins and 2 losses. “ONE: Masters of Destiny” marks her fifth ONE Championship outing.
