Eddie Garcia, 90, was rushed to the hospital after collapsing while taping for the upcoming GMA series “Rosang Agimat” in the morning of June 8, 2019 in Katuparan, Tondo, Manila, Philippines. The family of the veteran actor released a statement in the evening of the same day.
“Manoy Eddie Garcia was at a taping this Saturday morning when he suffered from a severe heart attack,” the family said in a statement obtained by GMA News. “He is still under critical observation and all his doctors are doing their best to assure that he gets the best care. Our family would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to all those who have expressed concerns and extended prayers. Please continue praying for Tito Eddie’s fast recovery.”
The “Rosang Agimat” taping was in Katuparan, Tondo, Manila, Philippines. Garcia went into a coma and was rushed to Mary Johnston Hospital in Tondo and was transferred to Makati Medical Center in Legazpi Village, Makati City, Metro Manila, Philippines after gaining consciousness.
“At 90, he is still doing what he love most, acting,” the family said of Garcia. “He is a pillar of the industry and is very passionate about his craft. We would like to request his fans and everyone to pray with us so he could get better the soonest time possible. Thank you.”
“Rosang Agimat” marks Garcia’s return to the small screen. The upcoming GMA series also stars Gabbi Garcia, Thea Tolentino, Aubrey Miles, Gil Cuerva, Kristoffer Martin, Jeric Gonzales, Celia Rodriguez, Chanda Romero, Luz Valdez, Tonton Gutierrez, Victor Neri, Roi Vinzon and Betong Sumaya.
Eddie played Don Miguel “Migz/G Pop” Vallejo in “Little Nanay” on GMA from 2015 to 2016 and Don Emilio Syquía/Gustavo Torralba in “FPJ’s Ang Probinsiyano” on ABS-CBN from 2016 to 2019. In 2018, he played Ramon Estrella in the LGBT-themed film “Rainbow Sunset” opposite Tony Mabesa as Alfredo “Fredo” Veneracion and Gloria Romero as Sylvia.
