Fighting out of Chesterton, Indiana, United States, Eddie Wineland, 34, was one of the winners at “UFC 238.” It was his sixth victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Featuring 13 mixed martial arts matches, “UFC 238” took place at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, United States on June 8, 2019. In the second bout of the evening, Wineland competed in the bantamweight division against Grigorii Popov, 35, of Yakutsk, Sakha, Russia with Kevin MacDonald as the referee.

Popov delivered some hard kicks and knees in the first round. However, the opening round belonged to Wineland, who rocked his Russian opponent with right hands.

MacDonald put a stop to the bantamweight contest after 4 minutes and 47 seconds in the second round. Wineland knocked out Popov via punches.

Winning at “UFC 238” improved Wineland’s professional MMA record to 24 wins, 13 losses and 1 draw. On the other hand, Popov now has 13 wins and 2 losses.

Including Russia and the U.S., 10 countries were represented at “UFC 238.” The other countries were Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Mexico, Peru, Poland and Scotland.

Born in Houston, Texas, USA on June 26, 1984, Wineland went to Chesterton High School in Porter County, Indiana where he competed in wrestling. As an MMA fighter, he has been competing professionally sine 2003.

In 2011, Wineland joined the UFC. The first five opponents he defeated in the promotion were Scott “Young Guns” Jorgensen, 36 of Boise, Idaho, USA, Bradley “One Punch” Pickett, 40, of Coconut Creek, Florida, USA, Yves “Tiger” Jabouin, 40, of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Frankie Saenz, 38, of Phoenix, Arizona, USA and Takeya Mizugaki, 35, of Hayama, Kanagawa, Japan.

When Wineland made his UFC debut on March 19, 2011 at “UFC 128,” he lost via unanimous decision to Urijah “The California Kid” Faber, 40, of Sacramento, California, USA. On August 14, 2011, the Indiana native lost via unanimous decision to Joseph Benavidez, 34, of Sacramento at “UFC on Versus 5.”
