
Fighting out of Covina, California, United States, Tatiana Suarez, 28, was one of the winners at “UFC 238.” It was the fourth victory of the Mexican-American undefeated mixed martial artist in the Ultimate Fighting Championship not including her four wins in the finale of “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 23 in 2016.
Featuring 13 mixed martial arts matches, “UFC 238” took place at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, United States on June 8, 2019. In the eighth bout of the evening, Suarez competed in the women’s strawweight division against Nina “The Strina” Ansaroff, 33, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA with Rob Madrigal as the referee.
After three five-minute rounds, the bantamweight contest was left in the hands of the three judges, who scored it 29-28, 29-28 and 29-28. In the end, Madrigal raised the hand of Suarez, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
Winning at “UFC 238” improved the professional MMA record of Suarez to 8 wins and 0 loss. On the other hand, Ansaroff now has 10 wins and 6 losses.
Including the U.S., 11 countries were represented at “UFC 238.” The other countries were Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, England, Mexico, Peru, Poland, Russia and Scotland.
Born in Covina on December 19, 1990, Suarez is of Mexican descent. She started wrestling since she was 3 years old.
As an MMA fighter, Suarez has been competing professionally since 2014. She joined the UFC in 2017.
The first three opponents Suarez defeated in the UFC were Vivian “Sucuri” Pereira, 25, of Ceara, Brazil, Alexa Grasso, 25, of Guadalajara, Mexico and Carla “The Cookie Monster” Esparza, 31, of Redondo Beach, California.
Suarez graduated from Northview High School in Covina. In 2012, she trained for the Summer Olympics but she had to quit due to a neck injury.
It turned out that Suarez had not only a bothersome disc in her neck but also a cancerous growth on her thyroid. She underwent a successful radiation therapy and her thyroid and several lymph nodes were removed.
