Johnny “Swift” Smith of Northern Ireland was crowned the World Kickboxing Network Intercontinental Welterweight Champion on June 23, 2019. He knocked out Lee Ji Hoon of South Korea at “PROKICK Back at the Clayton.” Presented by Billy Murray, the event marked the WKN’s second visit to Northern Ireland.
“PROKICK Back at the Clayton” took place at the Clayton Hotel in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The night of international kickboxing featured a series of bouts with WKN Intercontinental title contested in the headliner of the show.
Representing Europe, Smith faced Lee, who represented Asia. Under oriental rules, the welterweights squared off in a championship bout scheduled for five rounds.
The encounter ended prior to the final bell. Smith claimed the win by TKO in the fourth round after the referee Bob Hunter had seen enough and stopped the fight under the direction of the ringside doctor.
Smith celebrated his birthday on the night when he earned a prestigious WKN belt. He improved his professional kickboxing record to 8 win and 0 loss while Lee dropped to 26 wins and 9 losses.
The rest of the card featured a series of amateur matchups with local and international competitors.
Prior to “PROKICK Back at the Clayton,” the WKN presented another event in Rome, Italy. On June 22, Luca Carnevali and Francesco Picca earned WKN International titles in their respective weight classes at “Invictus Arena 26.”
