Hailing from Biñan City, Laguna, Philippines, Zephanie Dimaranan, 16, was the winner of the first edition of “Idol Philippines” on ABS-CBN. She was declared as the grand champion of the television singing competition on July 28, 2019.
Combining the judges’ scores and public votes, Dimaranan received 100 percent. Regine Velasquez, 49, James Reid, 26, Moira Dela Torre, 25, and Jose Marie “Vice Ganda” Viceral, 43, were the judges.
In second place with 70.2 percent was Lucas Garcia , 20, of Lipa City, Batangas, Philippines. Lance Busa, 24, of Butuan City, Agusan del Norte, Philippines finished third with 41.89 percent.
Dan Ombao, 23, and Miguel Odron, 24, made it to the Top 5. They were eliminated on July 27, 2019.
On July 25, 2019, “American Idol 2012” first runner-up Jessica Sanchez arrived in the Philippines. She was one of the guest performers at the “Idol Philippines 2019” grand finals, which took place at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World Manila in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines.
During the grand finals, Dimaranan, Garcia and Busa sang two songs. In the first round, they sang their respective journey songs, which are “Maghintay Ka Lamang,” “Hanggang” and “Akin Ka Na Lang.”
In the second round, the top three “Idol Philippines 2019” finalists sang original songs written for them by Filipino songwriters. Dimaranan, Garcia and Busa performed “Pangarap Kong Pangarap Mo” by Jonathan Manalo, “Because You Believed” by Trina Belamide and “Kapit Lang” by Jimmy Antiporda and Athena Antiporda, respectively.
As the “Idol Philippines 2019” grand winner, Dimaranan received a cash prize worth 2,000,000 pesos. She also won an all-expense paid vacation trip to Taiwan, a house and lot package from Camella Homes and an exclusive recording contract from Star Music.
Dimaranan was the youngest “Idol Philippines 2019” finalist. She was the only female contestant to make it to the Top 5.
Before “Idol Philippines 2019,” the Biñan City girl competed in other singing competitions on ABS-CBN but failed to make it to the top. She joined “The Voice Kids Philippines” Season 2 under Sarah Geronimo’s team but was eliminated in the live shows and competed in “Tawag ng Tanghalan” on “It’s Showtime” but was not able to make it to the grand finals.
When Dimaranan joined “Tawag ng Tanghalan” Season 2, she lost to Janine Berdin, 17, who eventually won. The former competed again in the third season but did not make it.
