Butuan City’s Lance Busa is ‘Idol Philippines 2019’ second runner-up

Hailing from Butuan City, Agusan del Norte, Philippines, Lance Busa, 24, almost won the first edition of “Idol Philippines” on ABS-CBN. He was declared as the third placer of the television singing competition on July 28, 2019.

Regine Velasquez, 49, James Reid, 26, Moira Dela Torre, 25, and Jose Marie “Vice Ganda” Viceral, 43, were the judges. Combining the judges’ scores and public votes, Busa received a score of 41.89 percent.

It was not enough to defeat Zephanie Dimaranan, 16, of Biñan City, Laguna, Philippines and Lucas Garcia, 20, of Lipa City, Batangas, Philippines. The former scored 100 percent and won while the latter scored 70.2 percent and finished second.

Dan Ombao, 23, and Miguel Odron, 24, made it to the Top 5. They were eliminated on July 27, 2019.

On July 25, 2019, “American Idol” Season 11 first runner-up Jessica Sanchez arrived in the Philippines. She was one of the guest performers at the “Idol Philippines 2019” grand finals, which took place at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World Manila in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines.

During the grand finals, Dimaranan, Garcia and Busa sang two songs. In the first round, they sang their respective journey songs, which are “Maghintay Ka Lamang,” “Hanggang” and “Akin Ka Na Lang.”

In the second round, the top three “Idol Philippines 2019” finalists sang original songs written for them by Filipino songwriters. Busa performed “Kapit Lang” by Jimmy Antiporda and Athena Antiporda while Dimaranan and Garcia performed “Pangarap Kong Pangarap Mo” by Jonathan Manalo, “Because You Believed” by Trina Belamide, respectively.

In 2015, Busa joined the boyband search “To the Top” on GMA Network and made it to Top 18 and in 2016, he played a guest character on the network’s series “Sa Piling Ni Nanay.” In 2017, the Butuan City pride was the grand champion of the first edition of Michael Bolton’s singing competition titled “Bolt of Talent.”

Hosted by Billy Crawford, 37, “Idol Philippines 2019” marked the first time Velasquez served as a judge in a TV singing competition. Here is Busa singing “Kapit Lang” at the grand finals:
