Hailing from Gapan, Nueva Ecija, Jiro Custodio, 22, almost won “BidaMan: The Big Break,” a segment of the variety show “It’s Showtime,” which airs Mondays to Fridays on ABS-CBN. He was the third placer of the talent competition.

The finale of the weeklong “BidaMan: The Big Break” grand finals was held at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines on August 10, 2019. Including Custodio, 12 finalists competed in the finale.

In the first round of the finale, the 12 finalists showcased their talents. Custodio sang “Macho Gwapito” by the late Rico J. Puno, a former judge in “It’s Showtime” singing contest segment “Tawag ng Tanghalan.”

From 12, the grand finalists were trimmed down to six. The Top 6 finalists were Custodio, Jin Macapagal, 24, of Cebu City, Ron Macapagal, 21, of Malate, Manila, Dan Delgado, 22, of Mandaluyong City, Yuki Sakamoto, 28, of Taguig City, and Eris Aragoza, 23, of Binangonan, Rizal.

In the second round, the six finalists performed in an acting challenge with a professional actor as a partner in 2 minutes. Custodio’s acting partner was “Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) All In” alum Maris Racal, 21.

Among the six finalists, three were chosen for the third and final round. Each of the Top 3 finalists namely Aragoza, Custodio and Jin did a monologue.

Custodio was the second one to deliver a monologue. His theme was about the pain of being left by a lover.

There were seven members of the panel of judges in the finale. They were directors Bobet Vidanes, 53, and Ruel S. Bayani and actors Joshua Garcia, 21, Angel Locsin, 34, Nadine Lustre, 25, Edu Manzano, 63, and Ian Veneracion, 44.

The judges gave Custodio’s monologue a final score of 8.3/10. It was not enough to beat Jin, who scored 8.9/10 and earned the grand prize.

In second place was Aragoza, who received a final score of 8.6/10. As “BidaMan: The Big Break” runners-up, Aragoza and Custodio each received a cash prize worth 100,000 pesos.

Placing third in “BidaMan: The Big Break” is indeed a big break for Custodio. He previously auditioned for “Pinoy Big Brother” and “Idol Philippines” but was unsuccessful.
