Miss Multinational Asia 2018 Kimilei Wangdali Mugford is not joining another beauty pageant anytime soon. For now, the Canadian-Igorot beauty queen will be busy with her singing career as she recently signed with Universal Records Philippines.
Mugford grew up in London, Ontario, Canada. Her father is Canadian while her mother is Igorot.
“My mom is actually Igorot,” Mugford told me during the Miss World Philippines 2019 press presentation at Novotel Manila Araneta Center in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines on August 29, 2019. “Her family is from Bauko, Mountain Province where my grandparents, my lola (grandmother) and my lolo (grandfather) raised 12 children.”
While Mugford was raised in Canada, she can speak a little Kankanaey and a little Ilocano. She was crowned Miss Multinational Philippines 2018 in Pasay City, Metro Manila on October 7, 2018 and Miss Multinational Asia 2018 on January 21, 2019 in New Delhi, India.
On August 3, 2019, Mugford celebrated her 19th birthday. When I asked her about her future plans, she told me, “I’m still so young to be competing (again) and throw in myself into this industry right now.”
“I would rather rejoin pageants when I am, you know, in my mid- to late 20s just because at that point in life, I feel like I would be more experienced and more well-spoken also more developed as a young woman,” Mugford said. “And as of right now, I’m working on my music career, in which I just signed (with) a music record label.”
On August 23, 2019, Mugford exhibited her singing skills during the Mister World 2019 coronation night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City. She sang “Never Enough,” a song written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul and performed by Loren Allred for the movie “The Greatest Showman.”
What the future has for Mugford’s career in music excites her. She said, “Right now, I’m just focusing on making music and keeping my voice very active.”
Aside from singing, Mugford is also talented in playing ice hockey. Watch my short interview with her here:
