The journey of Katarina Rodriguez, 27, in show business is a fun roller-coaster full of surprises. She has traveled the roads of modelling and beauty pageants and is now starting a career as an actress.

In 2014, Rodriguez represented the Philippines in “Asia’s Next Top Model” Season 2, which aired on STAR World. She finished third while her countryman Jodilly Pendre, 26, was runner-up to Sheena Liam, 28, of Malaysia.

In 2017, Rodriguez competed in Binibining Pilipinas 2017. She won the Miss Philippines Airlines special award and was crowned Miss Intercontinental Philippines 2017 by Miss Intercontinental 2016 top 15 finalist Jennifer Hammond.

On January 24, 2018, Rodriguez represented the Philippines in Miss Intercontinental 2017 in Hurghada, Egypt. She was runner-up to Veronica Salas Vallejo of Mexico.

On October 7, 2018, Miss World 2017 top 40 quarter-finalist Laura Lehmann crowned Rodriguez as Miss World Philippines 2018. The latter did not place in Miss World 2018 on December 8, 2018 in Sanya, China.

Now, Rodriguez is retiring from beauty pageants and is starting her career as an actress. She talked about this during my short interview with her at the Miss World Philippines 2019 press presentation at Novotel Manila Araneta Center in Quezon City, Metro Manila on August 29, 2019 .

“Yesterday, I came from a long day (in) a specific place,” Rodriguez told me. “I cannot say what or to or any details but I will have a teleserye (television series) so I’m really excited about that. Yesterday, we also finished dubbing for my first ever movie and fingers crossed that it makes it into the Metro Manila Film Festival this year.”

“So it seems that I’m going down the road of acting,” Rodriguez continued. “I wanna say finally kasi before pa (because even before), I’ve been going towards that direction and I think this moment is really the moment that I feel it and I’m very enthusiastic to go down that road.”

On September 15, 2019, Rodriguez will crown her successor at the Miss World Philippines 2019 coronation night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City. It will air live on GMA network.

Aside from the Miss World Philippines 2019 title, five other crowns will be given namely Miss Eco Philippines 2019, Miss Multinational Philippines 2019, Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas 2019, Miss Tourism Philippines 2019 and Miss Teen Eco International Philippines 2019.
