China’s Li Jingliang earns 9th UFC win, knocks out Brazil’s Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos at ‘UFC Fight Night 157’

“The Leech” Li Jingliang, 31, of Xinjiang, China was one of the winners at “UFC Fight Night 157,” which is also known as “UFC on ESPN+ 15.″ It was his ninth victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Featuring 11 professional mixed martial arts bouts, “UFC Fight Night 157” took place at the Shenzhen Universiade Sports Centre Arena in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China on August 31, 2019. In the co-main event of the evening, Li competed in the welterweight division against Elizeu “Capoiera” Zaleski dos Santos, 32, of Curitiba, Parana, Brazil.

John Sharp served as the referee. He put a stop to the welterweight contest after 4 minutes and 50 seconds in the third round when Li knocked out dos Santos via punches.

“Few people knew about the sport of MMA when I started practicing it,” Lee said after his knockout victory. “People didn’t know that there were Chinese fighters in MMA but from now on, the world sees us. We are powerful.”

“UFC Fight Night 157” marked Li’s 11th UFC bout and it was dos Santos’s ninth bout in the promotion. The Chinese contender is training out of China Top Team in Beijing, China while the Brazilian fighter is training out of CM System in Curitiba.

Winning at “UFC Fight Night 157” improved the professional MMA record of Li to 17 wins and 5 losses. On the other hand, dos Santos now has 21 wins and 6 losses.

Eight countries were represented at “UFC Fight Night 157” namely Brazil, China, Japan, Mongolia, New Zealand, Russia, South Korea and the United States. Dos Santos was one of the five fighters who represented Brazil while Li was one of the six representatives of the China.

Li is now riding a three-bout winning streak. The first eight opponents he defeated in the UFC were David “Bulldawg” Michaud, 30, of Brookings, South Dakota, USA; Dhiego Lima, 30, of Goiania, Goias, Brazil; Anton “The Professor” Zafir, 32, of Cairns, Queensland, Australia; Bobby “Nashty” Nash, 29, of East Lansing, Michigan, USA; Frank “The Crank” Camacho, 30, of Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands; Zak “The Barbarian” Ottow, 32, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA; Daichi Abe, 27, of Niigata, Japan and David “Sagat” Zawada, 29, of Dusseldorf, Germany.

Born in Tacheng, Xinjiang on March 20, 1988, Li has been competing professionally since 2007. Before joining the UFC, he competed in Art of War, Ultimate Martial Arts Combat and Legend Fighting Championship.

Both Li and main event winner, newly crowned UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion, “Magnum” Zhang Weili, 30, of Beijing, China won Performance of the Night so each of them received $50,000 bonuses. Meanwhile, here is Li in his “UFC Fight Night 157” post-fight interview in the octagon:
