Matheus Nicolau, 26, was one of the winners at the Brave Combat Federation combat sports event “Brave 25.” It was his first victory in the Bahrain-based mixed martial arts promotion.

Brave CF held “Brave 25,” which featured 10 MMA bouts, at the Arena Minas Tênis Clube in Belo Horizonte on August 30, 2019. In the co-main event of the evening, Nicolau competed in the bantamweight division against Felipe Efrain, 25, of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Early on, Efrain and Nicolau tested each other. The latter showed a much improved stand-up game and a better use of leg kicks to outperform his opponent.

Nicolau’s crippling leg kicks and better use of body shots earned him his first Brave CF win in the biggest stage of his career in front of his fans and family. He was declared the winner via unanimous decision after three five-minute rounds.

Winning at “Brave 25” improved the professional MMA record of Baghdad to 12 wins and 6 losses. On the other hand, Efrain now has 13 win, 5 losses, 0 draw and 1 No Contest.

“Brave 25” marked Efrain’s sixth bout and third loss in Brave CF. It was Nicolau’s promotional debut.

Nicolau was born in Belo Horizonte on January 6, 1993. He has been competing professionally since 2010.

Before joining Brave CF, Nicolau competed Pedro Leopoldo Extreme Fight, Brasil Fight, Lions Fighting Championship, Shooto Brazil, Bitetti Combat, the Ultimate Fighting Championship and Future Fighting Championships. He won three out of four UFC bouts from 2015 to 2018.

The “Brave 25” weigh-ins took place in Belo Horizonte on August 29, 2019. Efrain and Nicolau weighed 61.7kg and 61.3kg, respectively.

In the main event of the evening, Cleiton “Predator” Silva, 33, of Belo Horizonte challenged reigning Brave CF Lightweight World Champion Luan “Miau” Santiago, 24, of Curitiba, Parana, Brazil. The challenger dethroned the defending champion via submission in the first round.
