The Miss World Philippines 2020 coronation night took place at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines on September 15, 2019. On the same day, actress Shaira Diaz, 24, took to Twitter to jokingly express her interest in joining the next edition of the national beauty pageant.
One of the 40 candidates of Miss World Philippines 2019 was Michelle Marquez Dee, who went on to win the top crown. She co-starred with Diaz in the film “Because I Love You.”
Born in Las Piñas, Metro Manila on May 3, 1995, Diaz competed in the talent and reality show “Artista Academy” on TV5 in 2012. She finished in the Top 6.
Recently, Diaz played a firefighter in “Because I Love You.” Two of her co-actors in the film are products of a male beauty pageant namely David Licauco, 24, and Timothy Lawrence Yap, 27.
In 2014, Licauco and Yap competed in Mr. Chinatown, which is for Filipinos of Chinese descent. The title was given to Kurt Joshua Ong while Licauco and Yap were the respective first and second runners-up.
While Diaz played a firefighter in “Because I Love You,” Licauco played a rich polo player. The two previously co-starred in the GMA short film “One Hugot Away.”
“Walang filter si David,” (David has no filter) Diaz said of Licauco in a previous interview with Conan Daily. “So kung ano’ng nakikita niyo sa kanya, ‘yon lang siya. Gano’n lang din siya sa akin.” (So whatever you see in him, that is just what he is. That is also how he is to me.)”
Directed by Joel Lamangan, “Because I Love You” is the second film released by ALV Films. Joining Diaz, Licauco, Dee and Yap were Martin del Rosario, 26, and Samantha Lopez.
Hours before Dee’s coronation as Miss World Philippines 2019, del Rosario received his Best Actor trophy from the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino 2019 for his role in “The Panti Sisters.” Meanwhile, watch an interview with Diaz about “Because I Love You” here:
