Midwifery student Chelsea Farrell, 19, will represent Ireland at Miss World 2019. She will be the 68th woman from her country to compete in the oldest running international beauty pageant created by the late Eric Morley in the United Kingdom in 1951.
Miss Ireland 2019
Hailing from Ardee, County Louth, Leinster, Ireland, Farrell attended St. Louis Secondary School Carrickmacross in Country Monaghan, Ireland. She was crowned Miss Louth 2019 in July 2019.
On September 14, 2019, Farrell represented County Louth in the 72nd edition of Miss Ireland. The coronation night took place at The Helix Theater of Dublin City University in Glasnevin, Dublin, Ireland.
Besting 32 other candidates, Farrell was crowned Miss Ireland 2019, making her the first ever Miss Louth to ever win the title. Miss Limerick North 2019 Christina Alcazar and Miss Clare 2019 Emma Austin were the runners-up.
The newly crowned Miss Ireland 2019 were joined by her parents Derek Farrell and Carrie Farrell. After the coronation night, a gala black-tie dinner in the Crowne Plaza Hotel at the Northwood Park in Santry Demesne, Dublin.
Miss World 2019
On December 14, 2019, Chelsea will compete against 110 other candidates from around the world for the Miss World 2019 title at the ExCeL London in London, England, U.K. The successor of Miss World 2018 Vanessa Ponce, 27, of Mexico will be the 69th woman to hold the title.
If Chelsea wins Miss World 2019, she will be the second titleholder of the international beauty pageant from her country. The first one was Rosanna Davison, 35, of Dublin, who was crowned Miss World 2003 at the Crown of Beauty Theatre in Sanya, China on December 6, 2003.
The last time a representative from Ireland placed in Miss World was in 2010. On October 30, 2010, Emma Britt Waldron, 30, of Celbridge, Ireland finished in the Top 7 in Miss World 2010, which also took place at the Crown of Beauty Theatre in Sanya.
On November 8, 1990, Siobhan McClafferty, 49, of Dublin almost won Miss World 1990. She was runner-up to Gina Marie Tolleson, 50, of the United States.
