Mastercard is an official sponsor of the 30th Southeast Asian Games and 10th ASEAN Para Games. The American multinational financial services corporation signed an agreement with the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee and Mediapro Asia at Samba at the Shangri-La at the Fort in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, Metro Manila, Philippines on September 23, 2019.

Conan Daily was present during the event to witness the memorandum of agreement. It was signed by Mastercard Philippines country manager Rowell Del Fierro, Mediapro Asia managing director Lars Heidenreich and PHISGOC director of support and operations Jojit Alcazar, who represented PHISGOC chairman Alan Cayetano.

Aside from sports, Mastercard has sponsored big events in music such as the Grammy Award. Heidenreich stated, “As the appointed sponsorship agent for the SEA Games, we are excited to announce Mastercard as an exclusive category sponsor, joining other partners who are also leaders in their respective categories to support this Philippines milestone Games and most important sporting event across Southeast Asia in 2019.”

The 30th SEA Games will take place in the Philippines from November 30, 2019 to December 11, 2019. The 10th ASEAN Para Games will be held in January 2020 also in the Philippines, marking the second time the country is hosting the biannual multi-sport event for athletes with physical disabilities.

According to Del Fierro, sponsoring the upcoming SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games affirms the commitment of Mastercard to support the Central Bank’s cash-lite agenda. As a gold sponsor, Mastercard is the main backer of the official SEA Games app, which allows people to purchase tickets and food inside the arenas in the designated hubs of the biennial regional multi-sport event including Metro Manila; Clark Freeport and Special Economic Zone, Angeles, Pampanga and Subic Bay Freeport Zone, Olongapo City, Zambales.

PHISGOC will look forward for more sponsors to come before the start of the 30th SEA Games, according to Alcazar.
