Canada’s Jessica Cianchino is Miss Asia Pacific International 2019 second runner-up

Representing Canada, mental health advocate Jessica Victoria Cianchino, 21, almost won Miss Asia Pacific International 2019. She was declared second runner-up on October 9, 2019.

Cianchino is the Ambassador of Mental Health for the Youth and Parents Association of Markham. Her mental health advocacy is very personal to her since she has a 12-year-old cousin who committed suicide in April 2016.

Hailing from Toronto, Canada, Cianchino was crowned Miss Earth Ontario and Miss Earth Canada first runner-up in 2017. In 2018, she was crowned Miss York Region World.

Including Cianchino, a total of 54 women from Asia Pacific and neighboring countries competed in Miss Asia Pacific International 2019. Hosted by Samir “Sam YG” Gogna, 35, Joey Mead-King, 43, and “Celebrity Car Wars” host Bobby Tonelli, 43, the coronation night took place at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World Manila in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines.

Miss Asia Pacific International 2018 Sharifa Areef Mohammad Omar Akeel, 22, of the Philippines crowned Chaiyenne Huisman, 20, as her successor while Eoanna Constanza, 24, of Dominican Republic was first runner-up. Carolina Schüler, 25, of Brazil and Fiorella Cortez, 25, of Costa Rica were the respective third and fourth runners-up.

Cianchino also performed well in the preliminary events having crowned as the continental queen of the Americas. She won special awards namely Miss Photogenic and Miss Culture Hair Salon Manila and she was Best in Evening Gown first runner-up.


Miss Asia Pacific International is the oldest international beauty pageant in Asia. It was founded in 1968 as Miss Asia Quest, which was open to candidates from Asia and Oceania.

In 1968, the beauty pageant was renamed Miss Asia Pacific Quest, welcoming contestants from not only Asia and Oceania but also the countries in the Americas that border the Pacific Ocean. In 2005, it was renamed Miss Asia Pacific International.

The beauty pageant went on hiatus from 2006 to 2015 and was revived in 2016. Its current president is Jacqueline Tan-Sainz.

Among the sponsors of Miss Asia Pacific International 2019 were Trainstation, the University of Perpetual Help, Sherlock Lockset, King 3 Lang, Zanea Shoes, Teledata, Sherlux, Sony Boy Mindo Couture and Thistles and Blooms. The major sponsors were First Standard Finance Corporation, Paciflex Wires and Cables, Marriott Manila, FOCUS Ilaw ng Bayan, Sheridan Beach Resort and Spa and Hotel 101 Manila.

On October 3, 2019, the Miss Asia Pacific International 2019 candidates had a welcome party with the members of the press at The Selah Garden Hotel in Pasay City. During the event, Cianchino shared her mental health advocacy to Conan Altatis:
