Shinya “Tubikan Judan” Aoki, 36, of Japan was one of the winners at “ONE: Century 世紀” in Tokyo, Japan. It was the Japanese mixed martial arts veteran’s 10th victory in ONE Championship.
“ONE: Century 世紀” was the second ONE Championship event held in Japan and marked the martial arts organization’s 100th live event. The combat sports event had two parts with 11 bouts each.
Featuring mixed martial arts, Muay Thai and kickboxing matches, “ONE: Century 世紀” took place at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo on October 12, 2019. In the fourth co-main event of the second part, Aoki fought Honorio “The Rock” Banario, 30, of the Philippines in an MMA bout in the lightweight division.
Kemp Cheng served as the referee. Banario tried his best to keep distance but Aoki closed the gap almost immediately and fished for the bodylock takedown.
Aoki saw the opening once he and Banario hit the mat. Coste put a stop to the lightweight contest after 54 seconds in the first round when the Japanese contender submitted his Filipino opponent via D’Arce choke.
Winning at “ONE: Century 世紀” improved the professional MMA record of Aoki to 44 wins and 9 losses. On the other hand, Banario now has 14 wins and10 losses.
The former ONE Lightweight World Champion is training out of Evolve MMA in Singapore. The former ONE Featherweight World Champion trains at Team Lakay in La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines.
Born on April 9, 1983, Aoki has been competing in ONE Championship since 2012. The first nine opponents he defeated in the promotion were Arnaud Lepont, Kotetsu Boku, Cody Stevens, Kamal Shalorus, Koji Ando, Rasul Yakhyaev, Shannon Wiratchai, Ev Ting and Eduard Folayang.
Including Japan and the Philippines, 18 countries were represented in the two parts of “ONE: Century 世紀.” The others were Algeria, Belarus, Brazil, China, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey and the United States.
