Mixed martial artist Dominick “The Devastator” Reyes, 29, is still undefeated. Fighting out of Victorville, California, United States, he earned his sixth victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship at “UFC on ESPN 6” on October 18, 2019.
The UFC held “UFC on ESPN 6” at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, United States with 13 MMA bouts. In the main event of the evening, Reyes fought Chris “All-American” Weidman, 35, of Baldwin, New York, USA in the light heavyweight division.
Herb Dean served as the referee. He put a stop to the light heavyweight contest after 1 minute and 43 seconds in the first round when Reyes knocked out Weidman via punches.
Winning at “UFC on ESPN 6” improved the professional MMA record of Reyes to 12 wins and 0 loss. On the other hand, Weidman now has 14 wins and 5 losses.
“Early in the fight I saw the opening there, I knew he would lunge in,” Reyes said of Weidman in the post-fight interview. “And I cracked him right on the jaw and then those hammer fists to finish it, I knew he was already hurt and it only took some touches to finish him off and that was it.”
Reyes believes that he has done the necessary work to earn a title shot against the reigning UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon “Bones” Jones, 32, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. The latter has been holding the title since December 19, 2018, which marked the second time he earned the belt.
Born on December 26, 1989 in Hesperia, California, Reyes holds a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. From 2008 to 2012, he attended Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems.
While studying in Stony Brook University, Reyes was the captain of the university football team called the Sea Wolves. He participated in the NFL draft including the Washington Redskins, the San Diego Chargers and the Oakland Raiders but none of them chose him so he went back to California and engaged in MMA.
In 2014, Reyes made his professional MMA debut. He joined the UFC in 2017.
The first five opponents Reyes defeated in the UFC were Joachim Christensen, 40, of Copenhagen, Denmark; Jeremy “Grizzly” Kimball, 28, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA; Jared “The Killa Gorilla” Cannonier, 35, of Phoenix, Arizona, USA; Ovince “OSP” St. Preux, 36, of Knoxville, Tennessee, USA and Volkan “No Time” Oezdemir, 30, of Fribourg, Switzerland.
