ONE Strawweight World Champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, 23, of Baguio City, Philippines will be defending his belt against countryman Rene “The Challenger” Catalan, 40, at “ONE: Masters of Fate.” Recently, the reigning champion representing Team Lakay talked about his strengths and weaknesses.

ONE Championship will hold “ONE: Masters of Fate” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on November 8, 2019. Featured on the fight card are 11 mixed martial arts matches and three Muay Thai contests.

“Anything can happen, especially that my opponent is a veteran in combat sports,” Pacio said of Catalan. “I have been preparing for this bout for a long time and we have seen improvements. There are still a lot of things I need to learn and perfect but I will make sure that I will be well-rounded in Manila.”

On April 12, 2019, Pacio reclaimed the ONE Strawweight World Championship title from Yosuke “Tobizaru” Saruta, 32, of Saitama, Japan. Since then, he has been on the grind back at the Team Lakay gym.

Pacio doubled his efforts in hopes of giving fans another excellent performance after learning that he will get the opportunity to perform in front of his compatriots at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. He said, “My preparations for my next bout are great.”

“We’ve been working on some of my weaknesses and strengthening the weapons in my arsenal,” the Team Lakay warrior continued. “As usual, we’ve been focusing on everything because this is mixed martial arts.”

While Pacio is coming out of his successful rematch with Saruta, Catalan is riding a six-bout winning streak with exemplary performances that earned him a shot at the ONE Strawweight World Championship title. The defending champion shared, “I could not put into words the feeling of being victorious on 8 November.”

“To successfully defend my title in front of my countrymen in my hometown means a lot to the team and me,” Pacio continued. “I know how hard my brothers worked for their previous bouts so it’s heartbreaking to see them lose. I want to return the favor and win to motivate them more so we can go back to the top together.”

Meanwhile, here is throwback to Pacio’s rematch with former ONE Strawweight World Champion Yoshitaka “Nobita” Naito, 35, of Chiba, Japan in Jakarta, Indonesia:
