Katlyn “Blonde Fighter” Chookagian, 30, of Quakertown, Pennsylvania, United States was one of the winners at “UFC 244.” It was her sixth victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Featuring 12 MMA bouts, the UFC held “UFC 244” at the Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York, USA on November 2, 2019. In the third bout of the evening, Chookagian competed in the women’s flyweight division against Jennifer Maia, 31, of Curitiba, Parana, Brazil.
Kevin MacDonald served as the referee. After three five-minute rounds, the flyweight bout was left in the hands of the judges, who all scored it 29-28.
In the end, MacDonald raised the hand of Chookagian, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision. It was her fourth win the women’s flyweight division of the UFC and she is now riding s two-bout winning streak.
After the victory, Chookagian believes that she deserves the chance to challenge reigning UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion Valentina “Bullet” Shevchenko, 31, of Peru and Kyrgyzstan. The Quakertown native said, “I don’t see who else would have an argument to take my spot.”
Winning at “UFC 244” improved the professional MMA record of Chookagian to 13 wins and 2 losses. On the other hand, Maia now has 17 wins, 6 losses and 1 draw.
Born in Quakertown on December 28, 1988, Chookagian is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. She made her professional MMA debut in 2014.
Chookagian made her UFC debut in 2016. The first five opponents she defeated in the promotion were Lauren Murphy, Irene Aldana, Mara Romero Borella, Alexis Davis and Joanne Calderwood.
Including the U.S. and Brazil, eight countries were represented at “UFC 244.” The others were Belarus, Bulgaria, Canada, England, Finland and Suriname.
Maia was one of the three representatives of Brazil. Chookagian was among the 15 fighters who represented the U.S.
“UFC 244” was headlined by Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal, 34, of Miami, Florida, USA and Nate Diaz, 34, of Stockton, California, USA. They competed in the welterweight division and the winner took home the special BMF belt presented by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
