Can Ukraine’s Roman Kryklia win the inaugural ONE Light Heavyweight Kickboxing World Championship belt?

Roman Kryklia, 28, of Ukraine was one of the ONE Championship athletes who participated in the official “ONE: Age of Dragons” open workout in Beijing, China on November 13, 2019. Training out Gridin Gym in Minsk, Belarus, the Ukrainian kickboxer is set to make compete for the ONE Light Heavyweight Kickboxing World Championship.

“Winning the world title will mean the world to me,” Kryklia stated. “All my life, I just want to prove myself against the very best in this sport.”

Featuring six MMA bouts, four kickboxing contests and one Muay Thai match, ONE Championship will hold “ONE: Age of Dragons” at the Cadillac Arena in Beijing on November 16, 2019. In the co-main event of the evening, Kryklia and Tarik “The Tank” Khbabez, 27, of the Netherlands and Morocco will compete for the inaugural ONE Light Heavyweight Kickboxing World Championship.

“Tarik Khbabez is right up there,” Kryklia said of his “ONE: Age of Dragons” opponent. “He’s undefeated in ONE Super Series and I’m coming in as the new guy. Beating him and becoming World Champion would mean a huge boost in my career.”

“I am thankful for ONE Championship for recognizing my achievements and my skill, for giving me the chance to win this title,” the Ukrainian kickboxer continued. “It comes with a lot of responsibility and I need to perform at my best. I am looking forward to giving the fans a good show.”

Kryklia was born in Kharkiv, Ukraine on October 11, 1991. A former Kunlun Fight World Champion, he is currently riding an eight-bout winning streak heading into his ONE Super Series debut.

On the other hand, Khbabez was born in Rabat, Morocco on April 20, 1992 and is currently training at ARJ Trainingen in Den Haag, Netherlands. A two-time SUPERKOMBAT Heavyweight World Champion, he is known for his aggressive style and his fast and powerful combinations.

A heavy-handed striker, Khbabez has been perfect so far in ONE Super Series, winning all four of his bouts impressively. After defeating Alain Ngalani, Ibrahim El Bouni, Andrei Stoica and Anderson Silva in the ONE Championship striking-only league, the Dutch-Moroccan kickboxer now holds a professional kickboxing record of 46 wins, 5 losses and 1 draw.
