Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, 30, will serve as the muse of the Philippines at the Southeast Asian Games 2019. The biennial regional multi-sport event will take place in the country from November 30, 2019 to December 11, 2019.
As the muse of the Philippines, Wurtzbach will participate in the traditional athlete’s parade during the opening ceremony of the SEA Games 2019 at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan, Philippines on November 30, 2019. She and her fellow muses will wear gowns designed by Eric Pineda.
During the opening ceremony, the controversial cauldron, which is worth 56 million pesos, will be lit at the New Clark City sports complex in Capas, Tarlac, Philippines. The venue is located more than 70 kilometers away from the Philippine Arena.
Born to a German father and a Filipino mother in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, West Germany on September 24, 1989, Wurtzbach was 9 years old when her parents separated. She speaks English, Filipino, Cebuano and German.
Wurtzbach was crowned Miss Universe 2015 on December 20, 2015 in what is considered the most controversial coronation in the history of the international beauty pageant. She bested 79 other candidates.
The Filipino-German beauty queen won the right to represent the Philippines in Miss Universe in her third attempt. She was first runner-up in Binibining Pilipinas in 2013 and finished in the Top 15 when she returned to the same national beauty pageant in 2014.
Since 2016, Wurtzbach has been serving as UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador for Asia and the Pacific. She is the third Miss Universe from the Philippines following Gloria Diaz and Margarita Moran, who were crowned in 1969 and in 1973, respectively, while reigning Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray is the fourth one.
Like Wurtzbach, all of the SEA Games 2019 muses are crowned Filipino beauty queens. Check the list on Manila Herald.
