Vaimalama Chaves represented Tahiti, French Polynesia, France at Miss France 2019 and competed against 29 other candidates at the Zenith de Lille in Lille, Hauts-de-France, France on December 15, 2018. She won the title.
Runner-up to Chaves was Ophely Mezino of Guadeloupe. The respective second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth runners-up were Lauralyne Demesmay of Franche-Comte, Morgane Soucramanien of Reunion, Aude Destour of Limousin, Wynona Gueraini of Provence and Alice Quérette of Ile-de-France.
Miss France 2020 contestants
On December 14, 2019, Chaves will crown her successor at at the Le Dôme de Marseille in Marseille, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, France. It is the 90th edition of the national beauty pageant that selects the Miss Universe and Miss World candidates of the country.

On June 25, 2019, Chaves announced that she would not represent France in an international beauty pageant. She later accompanied the Miss France 2020 candidates during their trip to Tahiti.
On December 8, 2019, Miss France 2018 Maëva Coucke will represent France at Miss Universe 2019 at the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. On December 14, 2019, Mezino will represent France at Miss World 2019 at the ExCeL London in London, England, United Kingdom.
