Colombia’s Gabriela Tafur finishes in Miss Universe 2019 Top 5 in Atlanta, Georgia

Gabriela Tafur, 24, of Colombia was one of the finalists in Miss Universe 2019. She finished in the Top 10 of the 68th edition of the international beauty pageant.

The Miss Universe 2019 coronation night took place at the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, United States on December 8, 2019. It was hosted by Steve Harvey, 62, with Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo, 27, and Vanessa Lachey, 39, as the backstage presenters.

Including Tafur, 90 candidates competed for the crown. It was Zozibini Tunzi, 26, of South Africa who became the 68th titleholder of the international beauty pageant.

Catriona Gray, 25, of the Philippines graced the ceremony to crown Tunzi as her successor. The new Miss Universe 2019 queen wore a new crowned made by luxury jeweler Mouawad.

Runner-up to Tunzi was Madison Anderson, 24, Puerto Rico while Sofía Aragón, 25, Mexico was second runner-up. Paweensuda Drouin, 26, Thailand also finished in the Top 5.

“Millions of women worldwide lack access to reproductive healthcare,” Harvey told Tafur in the Top 5 question and answer portion. “What do you believe is the most important issue in women’s health and why?”

“I think the most important thing is that women are able to choose about their own body,” Tafur answered. “We have to have the option of having quality care so any decision we make about our body, our health, about our reproduction will never put us at risk, especially our lives.”

Olga Buława, 28, Poland was voted Miss Congeniality. Gazini Ganados, 23, of the Philippines won the Best in National Costume award.

Four out of the seven members of the all-female jury are from the United States. They were William Morris Endeavor chief marketing officer Bozoma Saint John, 42, Miss USA 2008 Crystle Stewart, 38, blogger Sazan Hendrix, 30, and Miss America 2018 Cara Mund, 26.

Miss Universe 2007 Riyo Mori, 32, of Japan was the only Asian member of the jury. Actress Gaby Espino, 43, of Venezuela and Miss Universe 2014 Paulina Vega, 26, of Colombia also served as judges.

Ally Brooke, 26, performed during the ceremony. It was broadcast on Fox and Telemundo.
