Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 35, of the Philippines will be one of the hometown heroes competing at “ONE: Fire and Fury.” Training out of Team Lakay in La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines, the former ONE Lightweight World Champion will face Ahmed “Wolverine” Mujtaba, 26, of Pakistan.
ONE Championship will hold “ONE: Fire and Fury” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on January 31, 2020. It will be the Singapore-based martial arts organization’s second event in 2020.
Folayang and Mujtaba will compete in the lightweight division at “ONE: Fire and Fury.” This makes the Team Lakay fighter the third Filipino mixed martial artist to fight the Pakistani athlete in a professional MMA bout following Rodian “The Redeemer” Menchavez, 24, and Neil Laraño, 30.
Mujtaba has been competing in ONE Championship since 2016. After losing to Ma Jia Wen, 23, of China at “ONE: Visions of Victory” on March 9, 2018, the Pakistani fighter holds a professional MMA record of 7 wins and 2 losses.
Currently, Folayang holds a professional MMA record of 22 wins and 8 losses. In his most recent bout, which was at “ONE: Masters of Fate” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on November 8, 2019, he defeated Amarsanaa “Spear” Tsogookhuu, 29, of Mongolia via technical decision.
“ONE: Fire and Fury” marks Folayang’s 18th bout in ONE Championship. He has been competing in the Singapore-based martial arts organization since 2011.
Aside from Tsogookhuu, Folayang defeated 11 other opponents in ONE Championship from 2011 to 2019, namely A-Sol Kwon, 34, of South Korea; Felipe Enomoto, 37, of Switzerland; Vincent “Magnivincent” Latoel, 40, of the Netherlands; Kotetsu “No Face” Boku, 42, of Japan; Tetsuya Yamada, 29, of Japan; Adrian “The Hunter” Pang, 42, of Australia and Papua New Guinea; Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki, 36, of Japan; Ev “E.T.” Ting, 30, of Malaysia and New Zealand; Kharun “Predator” Atlangeriev, 27, of Russia; Aziz Pahrudinov, 30, of Russia and Amir Khan, 25, of Singapore. In the same period and in the same promotion, the Team Lakay fighter lost to Aoki, Ole “Iron Fist” Laursen, 42, of Denmark; Kamal “Prince of Persia” Shalorus, 42, of Iran; Timofey Nastyukhin, 30, of Russia; Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen, 30, of Australia and Vietnam and Eddie “The Underground King” Alvarez, 30, of the United States.
