The Cayman Islands is a self-governing British Overseas Territory. Located in the western Caribbean Sea in North America, the territory comprises the three islands of Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, which are located to the northeast of Honduras, the south of Cuba and between Jamaica and Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula.
In 1670, England took formal control of the Cayman Islands along with Jamaica. On August 6, 1962, the Cayman Islands separated from Jamaica.
Martyn Roper, 54, is the incumbent governor of the Cayman Islands. He assumed office on October 29, 2018.
