Zach “Fun Size” Makovsky, 36, of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, United States has earned his first victory in BRAVE Combat Federation. Now, he is looking forward to competing for the inaugural championship of the flyweight division of the Bahrain-based mixed martial arts promotion.
Makovsky made his BRAVE CF debut at “BRAVE CF 34,” which took place simultaneously with “WFC 24: Caged” at the Hala Tivoli in Ljubljana, Slovenia on January 19, 2020. One of the matches on the main card was a flyweight bout between the Pennsylvanian fighter and Veliimurad Alkhasov, 28, of Grozny, Russia.
Both Makovsky and Alkhasov had their moments in the bout. The Russian contender scored early on through low kicks.
On the other hand, Makovsky showed very good movement and took Velimurad down at times. After three even rounds, the American contender walked away with a split decision victory and has set his sights on a title shot.
Two judges scored the flyweight contest 30-27 and 29-28, respectively, in favor of Makovsky. The third judge scored it 27-30 in favor of Alkhasov.
“I saw that there was one judge that gave me a 30-27 but I don’t agree with that,” Makovsky commented. “I think I won but Velimurad definitely got me in the second round.”
“Let’s go back and see what’s next,” Makovsky continued. “I know this division doesn’t have a champion yet so maybe I could fight Marcel Adur or the winner of any bouts he’s in and fight for the title. That’s what I want to do.”
Alkhasov and Marcel Adur, 27, of Balneario Camboriu, Santa Catarina, Brazil were supposed to compete for the inaugural BRAVE CF Flyweight World Championship title at “Brave 18″ on November 16, 2018. However, the Russian contender failed to make weight so he did not win the title despite beating Adur.
On November 15, 2019, Adur was supposed to compete again for the inaugural BRAVE CF Flyweight World Championship title at “BRAVE CF 29” at the Khalifa Sports City Arena in Isa Town, Bahrain. But his opponent Jose “Shorty” Torres, 26, of Chicago, Illinois, United States, who just lost his father, pulled out from the card so the bout was cancelled.
Recently, BRAVE CF confirmed that it is holding an event in Brazil for the fifth time. The fight card has yet to be announced but the promotion confirmed that the event will take place in Balneário Camboriú, which happens to be Adur’s hometown.
This is a good opportunity for BRAVE CF to finally crown its inaugural champion in the flyweight division. If it happens, the perfect fighters to compete for the belt are Adur and Makovsky.
