Spokane’s Michael Chiesa calls out Colby Covington after beating Brazil’s Rafael dos Anjos at ‘UFC Fight Night 166’ in Raleigh, North Carolina

Fighting out of Spokane Valley, Washington, United States, Michael “Maverick” Chiesa, 32, was one of the winners at “UFC Fight Night 166.” After his win, he expressed his interest in fighting Colby Covington, 31, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA next.

Featuring 12 mixed martial arts bouts, the Ultimate Fighting Championship held “UFC Fight Night 166” at the PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA on January 25, 2020. In the co-main event of the evening, Chiesa competed in the welterweight division against Rafael dos Anjos, 35, of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

“UFC Fight Night 166” marked dos Anjos’s 29th UFC bout. It was Chiesa’s 13th outing in the promotion.

Kevin MacDonald served as the referee. After three five-minute rounds, the welterweight bout was left in the hands of the judges.

One judge scored it 30-27 while the other two both scored it 29-28. In the end, MacDonald raised the hand of Chiesa, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

“Covington just fought for a title and I know he will bring out the best in me,” Chiesa said after his “UFC Fight Night 166” win. “I want to fight him in July during International Fight Week and then fight for a title by the end of the year. ”

The next edition of the annual UFC International Fight Week will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA from July 7-12, 2020. The fight card has yet to be announced.

 

From 2014 to 2019, Covington won 10 out of 12 bouts in the UFC. He currently holds a professional MMA bout of 15 wins and 2 losses.

Losing to Chiesa at “UFC Fight Night 166” downgraded the professional MMA record of dos Anjos to 29 wins and 13 losses. On the other hand, the Spokane native now has 17 wins and 4 losses.

A total of 14,533 spectators attended “UFC Fight Night 166,” which translated to $1,303,320.00. Seven countries were represented on the fight card namely Brazil, Czech Republic, England, Serbia, Sweden, the U.S. and Wales.

Dos Anjos was one of the four fighters who represented Brazil. Chiesa was one of the 15 representatives of the U.S.
