TWICE’s Chaeyoung confirms leaked phone number; JYP Entertainment to take legal action

K-pop girl group TWICE member Son Chae Young (손채영), 20, who is mononymously known as Chaeyoung (채영), broke her silence about her leaked phone number. On January 26, 2020, she took to Instagram to condemn the violation of her privacy.

For Chaeyoung, she has reached her limit of silently waiting for people to step back and waiting for the right time. According to her, calls and text messages flooded her phone after 11 seemingly random numbers were posted on the internet by an individual, who she described as someone with no consideration or respect.

This, Chaeyoung said, caused her to go through things should not have to go through and these people who contact K-pop stars through their private numbers do not put much thought into what they do and try to call it an action of love. She asked such people to think even just for a moment about how their calls and actions make many people feel fatigued, nervous and worn out.

Such actions will give a bad name to the fans who send their interest, support and love to K-pop stars in the right, healthy way, Chaeyoung noted. She clarified that she is not a person who is easily shaken by such issues and she not writing her statement just because she could not hold back her anger.

What Chaeyoung wanted to do, she explained, is simply to make sure that she properly label such actions as wrong behavior that is something to be ashamed of. She said such problems happen not only to her but also to her beloved TWICE band mates and fellow K-pop idols in JYP Entertainment, which also released a statement though its official fans website about the leaked phone number of Chaeyong.

Illegally leaking, acquiring and spreading personal information in such a way, as well as contacting the person whose information was leaked, is a violation of the Personal Information Protection Act and may be subject to legal action, JYP Entertainment warned. The company announced that an immediate action will be taken by filing a complaint against the person who posted the information on social media on the basis of a violation of the Personal Information Protection Act.

According to JYP Entertainment, the illegal leaking and sharing of personal information is causing great suffering and discomfort to their artists. In order to stop this, the agency will continue to collect evidence of such cases and they will do everything they can to take action against the culprits.

JYP Entertainment formed TWICE with nine members through the Mnet reality show titled “Sixteen” in 2015. Chaeyoung’s bandmates are Park Ji Soo (박지수), 22,  Im Na Yeon (임나연), 24, Yoo Jeong Yeon (유정연), Hirai Momo (平井 もも), Minatozaki Sana (湊崎 紗夏), Myoui Mina (名井 南), Kim Da Hyun (김다현) and Chou Tzuyu (周子瑜) whose respective stage names are Jihyo (지효), Nayeon (나연), Jeongyeon (정연), Momo (모모), Sana (사나), Mina (미나), Dahyun (다현) and Tzuyu (쯔위).
