“The Terminator” Sunoto, 35, of Indonesia has earned his 10th victory in ONE Championship. He was one of the winners at “ONE: Warrior’s Code.”
Featuring three Muay Thai contests and eight mixed martial arts bouts, ONE Championship held “ONE: Warrior’s Code” at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta, Indonesia on February 7, 2020. In the fifth bout of the evening, Sunoto competed in an MMA bout at a catch weight of 68kg against his countryman Nurul Fikri, 23, with Yoshinori Umeki as the referee.
Early in the opening round, Sunoto landed a thunderous left hand dropping Fikri. There was more control exhibited by the former in the succeeding round as he was able to use his striking to set up a big takedown and punish the newcomer with strikes.
In the final round, Fikri rallied scoring an early takedown of his own. However, Sunoto secured the win by getting back up and scoring another takedown to end the bout in dominant position.
After three five-minute rounds, the catchweight bout was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, Umeki raised the hand of Sunoto, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
Training out of Gracie Barra and Bhagasasi, Fikri made his ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Warrior’s Code.” Losing to Sunoto downgraded his professional MMA record to 3 wins and 4 losses.
On the other hand, it marked Sunoto’s 17th outing in ONE Championship. He now has 12 wins and 7 losses.
A World Karate Federation Indonesia Champion, Sunoto joined ONE Championship in 2015. Originally from East Java, Indonesia, he is now based in Jakarta and is training out of Terminator Top Team and IndoGym.
Aside from Indonesia, 14 other countries were represented at “ONE: Warrior’s Code” namely Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, Cyprus, Italy, Japan, Moldova, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Russia, South Korea, Thailand, Timor Leste and the United Kingdom.
