Representing Sri Lanka, Sayuri Jayarathne almost won Supermodel International 2019. She was crowned as the second runner-up of the ninth edition of the modelling competition founded in 2011 by the Mister Global Organization president Pradit Pradinunt.
It was Elina Pronina of Estonia who won the Supermodel International 2019 crown. Mister Global 2019 Kim Jongwoo of South Korea served as a VIP judge during the coronation night, which took place at the Siam Dragon Theatre in Chiang Mai, Thailand on February 8, 2020.
Jayarathne works as a model for Brian Kerkoven. She attended Lexicon International School in Kurunegala, Sri Lanka and the International Institute of Health Sciences in Welisara, Sri Lanka.
Before joining Supermodel International 2019, Jayarathne won several pageants in her home country. She was World Tourism Queen Sri Lanka 2020 and Face of Sri Lanka for Asia 2020.
Including Jayarathne and Pronina, 26 models from around the world competed in Supermodel International 2019. The preliminary competition took place at the Grand Morocc Hotel in Chiang Mai on February 7, 2020.
Prior to the coronation night, the contestants participated in various photoshoots, in which they exhibited their modelling skills with different themes including natural beauty, national costumes and swimwear. Among their photographers were Thanakorn Chotphruekchookul and David Ryo.
Runner-up to Pronina was Danielle Van Zyl of South Africa. Mar Arias of Dominican Republic and Namhee Jo of South Korea were the third and fourth runners-up, respectively.
Arias was also Supermodel of the Americas 2019. Her fellow continental winners were Supermodel of Europe 2019 Matilde Lima of Portugal, Supermodel of Africa 2019 Enanga Ndolo of Cameroon and Supermodel of Asia and Oceania 2019 Phoebe Denight Palisoc of Guam.
