Fighting out of Riverside, California, United States, Andre “Mr. Highlight” Ewell, 32, has earned his third victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The Californian mixed martial artist was one of the winners at “UFC 247.”

Featuring 12 MMA matches, “UFC 247” took place at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, USA on February 8, 2020. In the second bout of the evening, Ewell competed in the bantamweight division against Jonathan “Dragon” Martinez, 25, of Plainview, Texas.

Kerry Hatley served as the referee. After three five-minute rounds, the featherweight contest was left in the hands of the three judges, who saw it 28-29, 29-28 and 30-27.

In the end, Hatley raised the hand of Ewell. The Riverside native was declared the winner via split decision.

“Like I said, I’m here to fight,” Ewell said in his post-fight interview. “I’m here to throw. I’m here to automatically go fight the best and (Martinez) was great. He is a good guy.”

Losing to Ewell downgraded the professional MMA record of Martinez to 11 wins and 3 losses. It was the fourth UFC bout of the Texan fighter.

On the other hand, Ewell now has 16 wins and 6 losses. “UFC 247” marked his fifth fight in the UFC.

Born in Anaheim, California on January 21, 1988, Ewell has been competing professionally since 2015 and joined the UFC in 2018. The first two opponents he defeated in the UFC were Renan “The Baron” Barão, 33, of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil and Anderson “Berinja” dos Santos, 34, of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
