Professionally known as Ethel Booba, Ethyl Coyoca Gabison, 43, took to Instagram on April 8, 2020 to disown the Twitter account named after her with more than 1.6 million followers. This caused confusion among the fans and haters of the Filipino author, singer and comedienne.

The said Twitter account, which started in January 2012, is no longer accessible. The account was known for its Booba’s tweets that address controversies, most of which are political, in a comical or satirical way.

Those tweets always ended in the word “Charot” (Just kidding), which made led to the term charotism referring to Booba’s tweets. In 2016, she released a book called “#Charotism: The wit and wisdom of Ethel Booba.”

Half of the book is a compilation of Booba’s famous tweets. The other half is from the winners in a contest they launched specifically for the book.

Aside from the numerous times Booba acknowledged being the owner of that Twitter account, this very fact that she has a book out of her tweets make it really confusing for her fans and bashers why she is now disowning it. She did not even say it was hers but was hacked.

Most of Booba’s political tweets are satirically criticizing the Philippine government under the leadership of President Rodrigo Duterte. This made the critics of the same government assume that she was silenced and was forced to disown her Twitter account.

On the other hand, supporters of Duterte think that this assumption is ridiculous considering that the president and the entire country has a much bigger problem to solve, which is the worsening condition of the citizenry amid the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. But only Booba herself can explain what exactly is going on.

A month before COVID-19 spread like wildfire in the Philippines, forcing community quarantine in various regions, Booba gave birth to her baby girl. The father is Jessie Salazar, who she has been in a relationship with since 2017.
