The Kingdom of Spain is the only European country to have a physical border with an African country. Situated on the Iberian Peninsula, the country has two archipelagos namely the Canary Islands off the coast of Africa and the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea.
Several small islands in the Alboran Sea are part of Spain’s territory. The territory includes Ceuta, Melilla and Peñón de Vélez de la Gomera, which share borders with Morocco.
Spain is the sixth most populous country in Europe and the second largest country in Western Europe. Its government is a unitary constitutional monarchy.
