Lathrop, California’s Roosevelt Roberts earns 3rd UFC win, submits Brok Weaver in Las Vegas

Fighting out of Lathrop, California, United States, Roosevelt “GoGetta” Roberts, 26, was one of the winners at “UFC on ESPN 9.” It was his third victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Roberts was born in Miami, Florida, USA on February 11, 1994. He is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

As an MMA fighter, Roberts has been competing professionally since 2016. He made his UFC debut in 2019 and the first two opponents he defeated in the promotion were Thomas Gifford and Alexander Yakovlev.

Featuring 11 professional mixed martial arts matches, “UFC on ESPN 9” took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA on May 30, 2020. In the eighth bout of the evening, Roberts fought Brok “Chata Tuska” Weaver, 28, of Mobile, Alabama, USA in the lightweight division.

Herb Dean served as the referee. He put a stop to the lightweight contest when Roberts submitted Weaver via rear-naked choke at 3 minutes and 36 seconds of the second round.

Roberts is now riding a two-bout winning streak. In his post-fight interview, he said, “Just know when it’s time for me to fight, I’m going to show up and I’m going to bring everything I got.”

Winning at “UFC on ESPN 9” improved Roberts’ professional MMA record to 10 wins and 1 loss. On the other hand, Weaver now has 15 wins and 5 losses.

Brazil, Bulgaria, Kyrgyzstan, Peru and the U.S. were represented at “UFC on ESPN 9,” which took place amid the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Roberts and Weaver were two of the 27 fighters who represented the U.S.

In the co-main event of the evening, Augusto Sakai, 29, Curitiba, Parana, Brazil defeated Blagoy “Baga” Ivanov (Благой Иванов), 33, of Sofia, Bulgaria via split decision in the heavyweight division. In the main event, Gilbert “Durinho” Burns, 33, of Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil defeated Tyron “The Chosen One” Woodley, 38, of St. Louis, Missouri in the welterweight division via unanimous decision.
