The Steve McQueens releases ‘Firefly’ via Umami Records

The Steve McQueens has dropped its long-awaited brand new single “Firefly” via Singapore-based indie label Umami Records. It is the Singapore nu-jazz band’s first release in 143 weeks following its acclaimed full-length album “TERRAЯIUM” in 2017.

“Firefly” comes fresh off The Steve McQueens’ “Nerd Lounge” tour at the start of 2020. The band played shows at the Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival, Tokyo Big Romantic Jazz Festival and the Esplanade Singapore.

The brand new song finds new ways to redefine The Steve McQueen’s signature sound with dynamic arrangements, neo-soul grooves and daring sonic ideas. The ethereal new track serves as the lead single of the band’s new extended play “Tape Ends” scheduled to land on digital and streaming platforms on August 7, 2020.

Currently, The Steve McQueens is writing and recording new material for their fifth album “The Observer” to be released in 2021. The album “stands apart as an indifferent spectator at the ongoing culture clash between the jazz traditionalists and the new guard, smiling quietly to himself and making music,” the band said in a statement.

Formed in March 2013, The Steve McQueens has four members namely Eugenia Yip, Joshua Wan, Jase Sng and Anson Koh. Among the artists they like are Glasper, Bilal, Erykah Badu, D’Angelo, Monk, Amy Winehouse, Little Dragon and James Brown.
