Atimonan, Quezon’s Shane Tormes is Miss Philippines Earth-Fire 2020

Marie Sherry Ann “Shane” Quintana Tormes, 28, of Atimonan, Quezon almost won Miss Philippines Earth 2020. Crowned Miss Philippines Earth-Fire 2020, she was one of the runners-up of the 20th edition of the beauty pageant.

This is the second time Tormes competed in the environmental-themed contest. Representing Manduluyong City, Metro Manila, she competed in Miss Philippines Earth 2017 but was unplaced.

Tormes also competed in Binibining Pilipinas in 2018 and in 2019. She finished in the Top 25 in both editions.

Including Tormes, 33 candidates competed in Miss Philippines Earth 2020. She succeeded Miss Philippines Fire 2019 Alexandra Marie Dayrit of Marikina City, Philippines.

In the preliminary events, Tormes won gold in the casual wear competition and the singing category of the talent competition. She won silver in the beach wear competition.

It was Roxanne Allison Baeyens, 23, of Baguio City who won the Miss Philippines Earth 2020 title. The other runners-up were Miss Philippines Eco Tourism 2020 Ilyssa Marie Mendoza, 19, of Melbourne, Australia, Miss Philippines Air 2020 Patrixia Shirley Santos, 27, of Daraga, Albay and Miss Philippines Water 2020 Maria Gianna Llanes, 24, of Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila.

Hosted by Paolo Bediones, the Miss Philippines Earth 2020 coronation night aired on GMA Network. It was held virtually on July 5, 2020 because of the ongoing new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Miss Earth 2005 Alexandra Braun, 37, of Venezuela, Miss Earth 2010 Nicole Faria, 30, of India and Miss World Philippines 1975 Suzanne Talam Gonzalez-Gommer served as judges. They were joined by GMA Network Inc. first vice president Jose Mari Abacan, Hana Shampoo maker Peerless Products marketing director Carlos Bacani and Maleki GmbH founder Matthias Gelber.

Aside from winning the Miss Philippines Earth Fire 2020 title, Tormes also won the special award Hana Beauty from the major sponsor Hana Shampoo. It was the same award she won in Miss Philippines Earth 2017.
