Stromsburg, Nebraska’s Grant Dawson earns 4th UFC win at ‘UFC Fight Night 172’ on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi

Grant “KGD” Dawson, 26, of Stromsburg, Nebraska, United States earned his fourth victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The Nebraskan mixed martial artist was one of the “UFC Fight Night 172” winners.

Also called “UFC on ESPN+ 30,” “UFC Fight Night 172” featured 12 MMA matches on the UFC Fight Island on Yas Island on July 19, 2020 in the UAE or July 18, 2020 in the U.S. Dawson fought Nad “Smiler” Narimani, 33, of Bristol, England at a catch weight of 150lbs in the sixth bout, which was refereed by Daniel Movahedi.

After three five-minute rounds, the catchweight contest was left in the hands of the three judges, who scored it 30-26, 30-27 and 29-27 all in favor of the fighter in the red corner. In the end, Movahedi raised the hand of Dawson, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

This is the second time Dawson won a professional MMA bout via unanimous decision. Winning at “UFC Fight Night 172” improved the Nebraskan MMA fighter’s professional MMA record to 16 wins and 1 loss.

Fighting professionally since 2014, Dawson joined the UFC in 2019. In one year, the Stromsburg native defeated his first three opponents in the promotion namely Julian Erosa, Michael Trizano and Darrick Minner.

On the other hand, Narimani made his UFC debut in 2018. The Iranian-English MMA fighter now has 12 wins and 4 losses.

 

“UFC Fight Night 172” was the third UFC event to take place on the UFC Fight Island during the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. A total and 17 countries were represented namely Armenia, Brazil, Canada, the DR Congo, England, Georgia, Iraq, Ireland, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine, the U.S. and Wales.

Dawson was one of the four fighters who represented the U.S. Narimani was one of the three representatives of England.

In the main event, Deiveson “Deus da Guerra” Figueiredo, 32, of Soure, Para, Brazil was crowned the new UFC Flyweight Champion after his rematch with Joseph Benavidez, 35, of Sacramento, California, USA. In the co-main event, Jack “The Joker” Hermansson, 32, of Norway and Sweden submitted Kelvin Gastelum, 28, of Yuma, Arizona, USA in the middleweight division.
