Usman Nurmagomedov, 20, of Moscow, Russia and Amir Aliakbari, 32, of Tehran, Iran may join ONE Championship soon. This was mentioned by Dominance MMA founder Ali Abdelaziz, 42, of Cairo, Egypt, who recently announced that he will work with the Singapore-based martial arts promotion.
Abdelaziz is the manager of reigning UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov, 31, of Makhachkala, Dagestan, Russia, the cousin of Usman. Both Khabib and Usman are undefeated.
“I have a lot of athletes coming up and possibly joining them, like Khabib’s younger brother, Usman, Amir Aliakbari, so many upcoming guys,” Abdelaziz said. “They can be huge signings for ONE,” Abdelaziz shared.
Currently, Khabib holds a professional MMA record of 28 wins and 0 loss while Usman has 9 wins and 0 loss. On the other hand hand, Aliakbari has 10 wins and 0 loss.
“Usman is 20 years old,” Abdelaziz said. “He’s undefeated 9-0. He’s one of my biggest prospects in MMA. To be honest, we talked about it with Khabib and we thought maybe he can join ONE Championship.”
According to Abdelaziz, he and ONE Championship chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong have been talking and they are going to look at some athletes in the next few days. The Dominance MMA founder said, “Maybe we’re gonna break something in a few days.”
Abdelaziz also hinted on the possibility of former UFC Flyweight and Bantamweight Champion Henry “The Messenger” Cejudo, 33, of Phoenix, Arizona, United States joining ONE Championship. The former said, “I have a garage full of Ferraris and Lamborghinis and I’m looking forward to put on a very very good car show in Asia.”
In 2018, several former UFC fighters joined ONE Championship. Among them were Sage “Super Sage” Northcutt, 27, of Katy, Texas, USA, Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson, 32, of Kirkland, Washington, USA and Eddie “The Underground King” Alvarez, 34, of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia USA.
“One of the meccas of MMA is in Asia and ONE Championship is a world class brand,” Abdelaziz stated. “I’m excited with how they run the show. It’s like a spectacle.”
“It’s like watching the Olympic games,” it has a different feel to it. I have [talked to] fighters like Eddie Alvarez, with how he’s been treated with ONE and I can’t wait to work with them.”
